Volunteers Get the Job Done!

Musician and volunteer Kris Batiste sorting drum kit parts for assembly

We’ve had lots of changes at Tipitina’s Foundation this year! Our instrument repair and storage space, New Orleans Music Co-op and TIP classroom were all housed at the old McDonogh 35 building on Kerlerec Street. We learned last December that the New Orleans School Board slated the building for re-purposing, requiring us to relocate these programs.  We moved our instruments to a new storage space near the Foundation offices in May.

Musicians Thomas Grant, director of band for Mildred Osborne Elementary, and Kris Batiste, a member of the famed Batiste musical family, spent two days helping Foundation staff organize the new space. With their expertise in servicing our drum and percussion equipment, ten drum sets were assembled and prepared for school placement. We need more help! If you have the time to donate and are skilled in any type of instrument repair, please let us know. Thank you, Thomas and Kris for investing your time and expertise to support the future of New Orleans’ music community.
