Former TIP Interns Perform with LPO

This month, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) held a concert highlighting the life and work of the amazing “King of Swing”, New Orleans’ very own Louis Prima. Tipitina’s Foundation was honored that three former TIP Interns were featured performers at the concert, playing onstage with Louis’ daughter, Lena Prima, a gifted songwriter and singer.

As recipients of the ASCAP Foundation Louis Prima Award, trombonist Jeffery Miller, trumpeterJohn Michael Bradfordand drummer Brian Richburg, Jr. performed “Jump, Jive and Wail”. These three successful professional musicians, former participants in our TIP Internship Program and Sunday Youth Music Workshops, remind us here at the foundation how our work nurtures the next generation of  performers.

As part of our mission to promote childhood music education, Tipitina’s Foundation underwrote attendance at the concert by band students from Sophie B. Wright Charter School, who were also invited onstage to perform two numbers with the LPO and Lena Prima.
