Blues & Jazz Album II Raises Money for Tipitina's Foundation

The Blues & Jazz forum is back with a follow-up album that's been in progress for a year and a half.

Comprising of 14 original songs written and performed by members of the UG Blues & Jazz forum, the album shows the natural progression, time, dedication and effort put in by all involved in the project that kicks the first album into the shadows – and the first album was a success!

A warm blend of jazz and blues songs from the soft and subtle to the hard and heavy: There is just about everything for any blues or jazz listener in this diverse and eclectic album.

All money raised from the album goes to Tipitina’s Foundation!  Learn more about the album, or get your copy by clicking HERE!

Show support for victims of The Caterie fire, Baton Rouge

Over 60 musicians in almost 20 bands from Baton Rouge, LA have been affected by a devastating fire that destroyed the The Caterie nightclub and surrounding businesses on Friday January 1st, 2010.  Many bands used spaces next The Caterie to rehearse and to house their instruments.  Some lost the only place they could rehearse, while others lost everything, including their instruments, gear, merch, computers, and business records.  Most of the equipment was uninsured, and took years to accumulate.

Tipitina's Foundation, Tipitina's Music Office Co-Op Baton Rouge and other organizations are coming together to help the city's music community.  From the Flames is working tirelessly to coordinate a benefit and relief efforts.  Please visit the facebook page or follow on twitter to learn more and show your support!

Tipitina's Interns Awarded Full Scholarships to Prestigious Berklee College

Eleven young musicians accepted full-tuition scholarships to attend Berklee College of Music starting this fall at an emotional presentation at the Berklee Performance Center August 11. Out of the eleven scholarships awarded, three are from New Orleans via the Tipitina's Intern Program (TIP). The Berklee City Music Continuing Scholarships were handed out by Berklee president Roger H. Brown; J. Curtis Warner, associate vice president for education outreach/executive director of Berklee City Music; Krystal Banfield, director of City Music Boston; and Lynette Gittens, associate director of City Music. Boston Mayor Thomas P. Menino was also on hand and gave remarks at the event.

The students have all been participants in Berklee City Music, a scholarship, tutorial, and mentoring program that gives selected teens access to music education at no cost to them or their families. If all 11 students complete four years of study at the college, the collective amount of the scholarships awarded will be worth $1.3 million dollars. Individually, each scholarship is worth over $100,000.

The scholarships were awarded during the annual Berklee City Music Blowout Concert, where students performed rock, pop, jazz, inspirational, and r&b songs by artists including Maroon5, Adele, Christian McBride, Chick Corea, Beyonce, Chaka Khan and Rufus, and Michael Jackson. The 11 Continuing Scholarship recipients were among 72 young musicians ages 15 to 19 who were enrolled in Berklee's Five-Week Summer Performance Program on City Music Summer Scholarships—the highest number to date.

Internship Artistic Director, Donald Harrison and Tipitina's Foundation's Youth Program Director, Erin Frankenheimer attended the event to personally congratulate the New Orleans teens on their achievements
